Golam Rabbani Chhoton's charges won 2-0 against the United Arab Emirates in their opening group 'B' match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Monday.

They will face Kyrgyzstan in their second and final group game on Friday.

Bangladesh started the game on the front foot and broke the deadlock on the 10th minute. Defender Akhi Khatun's long ball found Sirat Jahan Shapna, who beat the goalkeeper with a superb strike.

The home side doubled the lead on the 30th minute. Krishna Rani found the back of the net with an emphatic header from Monica Chakma's corner kick.

Bangladesh came close to adding another goal towards the end of the first half as Akhi's effort from the edge of the box clipped the crossbar.

The hosts kept up the pressure on the UAE in the second half but could not increase the margin of victory. On the 49th minute, Shapna was played through on goal with only the keeper to beat. But her shot was straight at the goalkeeper.

Another chance went begging on the 71st minute when Krishna failed to connect with a header on the goalmouth.

Bangladesh have now won their first meeting with the UAE at the Under-19 level. Bangladesh had triumphed against the UAE on three occasions in the AFC under-16 Championship qualifiers. Bangladesh won the last encounter between the sides by 7-0 in 2018.
