Nepal crashed the hosts by 2-0 at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.

With the victory, the Himalayan nation qualified for the semifinal.

The maiden goal of the match from Midfielder Bimal Gharti Magar in the 33rd minute of the match took Nepal on the recovery road in the tournament. Moreover, the final slam from Nepal came in the dying embers of match at 90 minutes with a goal from substitute Nawayug Shrestha.

With this defeat, Bangladesh’s dream of becoming the top four for the first time since 2009 was shattered. In 2003, Bangladesh won the SAFF Championship on the home ground.

The two sides previously faced seven matches in the SAFF football game. Bangladesh won four and Nepal three of those matches.

In this tournament, Bangladesh had two successive wins over Bhutan and Pakistan in the group match.
