“We have repeatedly visited the home minister and requested that she (Khaleda Zia) be admitted to a specialised hospital of her choice. She was not taken there, but to the PG Hospital (BSMMU),” he said at an event in Dhaka on Saturday.

“This is a government-controlled hospital. The PG Hospital will follow the government’s directions. We do not think that she will be treated properly there."

The BNP leader Khaleda's sickness reached “such a level that she now cannot not walk and eat anything”.

“The country's three-time elected prime minister and two-time opposition leader is being tortured in this way. We believe this torture is violation of human rights,” he said.

“In other words, politics in Bangladesh has been buried,” he added, alleging that a conspiracy against the BNP hatched when it returned to power in 2001 which led to the 2007-08 emergency.

Mirza Fakhrul urged the party and alliance leaders and workers to get ready for wedging protests to unseat the ruling Awami League.
