Prof Dr Abu Nasar Rizvi told bdnews24.com on Saturday morning:

“Minister Obaidul Quader is now completely physically healthy.”

“We have slowly reduced his dosage of sleeping pills. His endotracheal tubes have been removed. He spoke to me after the tubes were removed.”

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof Rizvi had accompanied the 67-year-old Awami League leader to Singapore on Mar 4.

He has given regular updates on Quader’s recovery to the media from Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

On Mar 2 Quader was admitted to BSMMU with breathing difficulties. An angiogram showed that three of his arteries were blocked. One of the arteries was then cleared using a stent.

Quader was transferred to Singapore on Mar 2 once he stabilised.

Doctors at Mount Elizabeth Hospital formed a medical board to oversee the minister’s care that night. Cardio thoracic surgeon Dr Sebastin Kumar Samir led the team that conducted a bypass surgery on Quader.

After staying at the ICU for some time, the minister’s condition improved and he was transferred to a cabin.

Quader’s wife Isratunnesa Quader has accompanied him to Singapore.
