Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rab proposed the idea of “forming committees” to “guard voting centres” during a campaign rally in Tongi on Saturday.

“Make a public committee of 101 members with town elders, imams and madrasa superintendents who will guard voting centres. Members of this committee will keep the centres cordoned off before voting comes to an end. No-one must leave the centres.”

Addressing local leaders, Rab said, “You must be present outside the voting centres before 4am so that they (ruling party candidates) can’t position themselves there. Do not stay up too late before the election day; you will have to wake up early.”

“Voting begins at 8am. The first thing you must do at this time is to check the ballot boxes, to see if there are any ballot inside. The Election Commission’s rule says presiding officers and centre officers will sign and seal the result sheets once all ballots are gathered and counted,” said the alliance leader.

“Take an oath. Lay down your lives, if you must, to keep our votes safe. Don’t leave the centres without the results.”

The Oikya Jote began its first road march on Saturday as a motorcade of alliance leaders left Rab’s home at Uttara around 2pm.
