The order by the chamber judge came after the Election Commission filed a petition to the Appellate Division challenging the High Court decision.

Returning officers had rejected their applications for the 11th parliamentary election on the context of their prison sentences. Tuku and Dulu challenged the decisions but the Election Commission upheld the returning officers’ decision after a review.

A High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil halted the Election Commission’s decision to reject the nominations of the BNP leaders after hearing the petitions on Monday.

The High Court also ordered the EC to accept their nominations. The court also issued an order allowing rebel candidates to withdraw their nominations if they wish to do so.

On Tuesday, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, the chamber judge, suspended the High Court order after hearing the petition. The EC's application has been sent to the Appellate Division for hearing on Wednesday.
