Bijon Kanti Sarkar, adviser to the BNP chairperson, delivered the letter from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to the EC on Sunday.

“I inform you, with grave concern, that the Manikganj deputy commissioner is not accepting the signatures I have conferred on the applications for the BNP candidates, which is unacceptable. I have consistently stated that I have personally signed the nomination forms for all the BNP nominees in Manikganj and there is no doubt about it.”
Mirza Fakhrul urged the Election Commission to accept the completed forms.

The deputy commissioner had rejected the applications of seven BNP candidates for three Manikganj parliamentary seats due to mismatched signatures.

“We are saying that this is the correct signature,” Bijon said. “The secretary general signed 700-800 nomination forms. There is some room for variance. But rejecting these applications despite our party’s approval is unfortunate.”

He criticised the decision of the Manikganj deputy commissioner. The EC told the BNP to appeal the decision with the returning officer.

Bijon said that he hoped their appeal would be ‘accepted’.
