The Jatiya Oikya Front spokesperson called for BNP activists and leaders to ignore persecution and harassment and prepare for a spirited battle for the coming election.

The BNP leader made the remarks during an Ainjibi Oikya Front rally on Saturday. The lawyers association came together after the opposition alliance was formed.

“They do not allow us to rally, they do not allow us to speak, they do not allow us to campaign, they file false charges against us to send us to prison or make us fugitives. But we have to unite the people, take on the challenge and slay this beast in the election.”

“We have little time on our hands. If we want to save our nation, the Bangladeshi state, our people, our independence, then this is the appointed time. Come let us unite and take to the streets together. We will fight and we will win.”

Fakhrul also brought up the cases against Mainul Hosein and Nipun Roy Chowdhury.

“We are living in a state where even our lawyers are the victims of false cases. Dr Kamal Hossain has brought this matter to the court, but has received no response. Over 450 false cases have been filed since the election schedule was announced.”

“How will we take part in the polls? We must do so even in these circumstances. We will oppose their violence, their torture, their blueprints and schemes and, together with the people, achieve victory through our revolution.”

The BNP secretary general also fired back at Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comments about all the communal forces uniting under the symbol of the paddy sheaf.

Expressing his scepticism over the Election Commission’s efforts to hold a fair poll, he said, “The commission failed to conduct fair local government polls, how would it conduct the national election in a fair manner?”

Fakhrul reiterated the call for creating a level-playing field for all to make the upcoming election acceptable.

The Oikya Front leader also called upon the government to release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and meet their demands.

Oikya Front chief Dr Kamal Hossain also spoke at the event.
