“They are contesting the election; there is no doubt about that. We are hopeful,” said Quader during a press briefing on the second day of the sale of Awami League nomination applications on Saturday.

The Awami League began the sale of its nomination papers from Friday, the day after the Election Commission has announced the schedule for the 11th national parliamentary election.

Meanwhile, the BNP and the Jatiya Oikya Front had threatened to boycott the election at their Friday rally in Rajshahi if their seven-point demands, including the release of Khaleda Zia and the dissolution of parliament, are not met.

“This is a clear defiance of election law. They cannot speak the way they did during the Rajshahi rally after the election schedule has been announced. They cannot deliver such heated speeches and announce protests,” said Quader about the Rajshahi rally.

The reporters asked Quader about the issue of informing the Election Commission if the alliance wishes to compete under a shared banner.

“We’ll ask for some time from the EC; we’re still working it out.”

AL Joint-General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Khalid Mahmood Chowdhury and Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap were also present at the press briefing.
