The three groups were scheduled to meet to finalise their outline for the alliance on Saturday, but have announced separate press conferences after the meeting failed to materialise.

The Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, led by Kamal Hossain, has set a press conference at the National Press Club for a 6pm start on Saturday.

Jukto Front Convener AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury has called a press conference at his own home at Baridhara’s Park Road half an hour later.

The Jukto Front, the Jatiya Oikya Prokriya and the BNP were scheduled to meet at Dhaka’s Bailey Road at 3:30pm on Saturday.

Badruddoza Chowdhury and his son Bikalpadhara Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Mahi B Chowdhury went to the home of Kamal Hossain at 3:30pm to join the meeting.

But they found the home was locked and eventually departed after waiting in the car for some time.

“There isn’t even anyone to open the gate,” Mahi B Chowdhury told the media. “This behaviour is absolutely unsuited to a former president who has called a meeting.”

“We will hold a press conference at 6:30pm and clarify our position.”

Meanwhile, Kamal Hossain held a meeting at his offices at the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry building with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, JSD President ASM Abdur Rab and Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna.
