Returning Officer Md Mujibur Rahman announced the results at the regional EC office in Barishal on Wednesday.

The results of the polls had been suspended over allegations of violation at more than 50 polling stations during the balloting on July 30.

One of the 123 polling stations was closed following the allegations of irregularities. Other 15 stations were closed later over the same allegations.

The commission sent a notice for re-polling at nine stations after investigation, said Mujibur Rahman.

It has set Oct 13 for re-polling in the nine centres.

Sadiq bagged 1,11,965 votes from 114 polling centres while his nearest rival BNP’s Mazibor Rahman Sarwar polled 13,776, according to Mujibur.

Sadiq was declared as mayor as the margin of votes from 114 stations is higher than that in the suspended nine centres put together, which means these will not affect the results, the returning officer said.
