“The BNP had written down its allegations before the voting. They had fixed the statements to be issued before, during and after the voting,” the ruling party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader said at a news briefing in Dhaka after the balloting ended at 4pm on Monday.

“Today’s elections have made it clear that the BNP’s main objective is to make the elections controversial…But they have failed,” he added.

Quader also alleged that the BNP tried to let loose violence to foil the elections.

The BNP has alleged the Election Commission conducted a ‘farce’ in the name of polls to the three cities.

Alleging widespread rigging and irregularities, its mayoral candidate in Barishal announced a boycott. It candidate in Sylhet rejected the results while in Rajshahi, the BNP candidate stayed away from casting his own vote.
