Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir demanded retired army officer Mizan’s release in a statement on Tuesday after the member of Central Executive Committee was arrested on Monday night.

In the leaked phone conversations, a person believed to be Mizan is heard ‘plotting violence’ during the polls that were held on Tuesday.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said, “Phone conversations of conspiracy have been published on the social media. A blue print set by a central BNP leader has been exposed there.”

“The BNP made its own people wear badges with boat logo to throw the polls into controversy. And today a BNP activist was caught red-handed on charges of casting fake vote. What does the BNP have to say about these?” he asked.

But Mirza Fakhrul said in the statement, “We believe arresting Major (retired) Mizan late in the night was an attempt of enforced disappearance, to which many other leaders have fallen victim.”

“The government has released an imaginary audio clip in a new drama to conceal their own heinous act,” he added.

The BNP leader said the government ‘made the clips as part of damage control’.
