“We have received information that ruling party men captured over 100 polling stations and stuffed ballot boxes with fake votes in Gazipur elections,” said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in an instant reaction to the Gazipur polls on Tuesday.

Voting started at the 425 polling centres at 8am on Tuesday and ended at 4pm.

Branding the election as a grand festival of fake votes, Rizvi said the polling agents of BNP-backed mayoral candidate Hasan Uddin Sarker have been driven out of many centres by ruling party men in league with the police.

Many agents from different polling stations have been arrested on the election day, Rizvi said adding that police have played a partisan role in the election.

“The government attached little importance to fair elections.”
