BNP leaders in Dhaka to head for jail to meet Khaleda on Eid morning

The BNP has announced a programme for its leaders in Dhaka for the Eid-ul-Fitr morning to head towards the old jailhouse where party chief Khaleda Zia is spending the Eid day this year.

Senior Join t Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a news conference on Friday.

He said the BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will place wreaths on the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman and recite Quran there at 11:30am.

They will head towards the old jailhouse on Nazimuddin Road from there, Rizvi said.

The BNP policymakers earlier filed an application for  permission to meet their chief in jail on the Eid day.

Khaleda has been helming the BNP since the assassination of her husband and president Ziaur Rahman in 1981. She was elected prime minister and leader of the opposition in around four decades of her political career.

She usually exchanges greetings with people from different walks of life on the Eid day.

This time she is spending the Eid day in jail as courts ordered her arrest in different cases though she has secured bail in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case in which she was sentenced to five years in prison.
