The state minister disclosed it hours after he posted his comments on BNP leader Tarique Rahman’s passport.

Alam described the hacking of his Facebook account as “overnight torture”.

“It is easily understood who has invested time in it,” he wrote in a post on Tuesday.

Alam shared the copies of the UK Home Office letter and the BNP leader's passport with the media in a press conference in Dhaka on Monday.

According to him, the acting BNP chief is no longer a citizen of Bangladesh as he surrendered his passport.

The BNP later clarified that the passport handover was part of a requirement for his political asylum in London.

The state minister posted the images of Tarique Rahman's passport and a copy of the UK Home Office letter on Facebook. But the post was removed after “hacking”.

He told bdnews24.com that they were trying to hack the account, but deleted the previous posts.

Surrendering the passport, Tarique Rahman gave up his Bangladesh citizenship, Alam said on Monday.

Dismissing Alam’s statement, BNP said Rahman surrendered his passport to the UK Home Office to get political asylum in London, but not to give up Bangladesh citizenship.
