BNP leader Moudud Ahmed says he has no confidence over the government-provided treatment to Khaleda Zia and demanded her immediate release so she could receive better treatment.
He expressed his concerns while talking to reporters during the BNP chairperson’s medical tests at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University or BSMMU on Saturday morning.
The former prime minister has been sentenced to five years in prison at the old central jail in the Dhaka’s Nazimuddin Road since Feb 8 following the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
BNP standing committee member and Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Moudud Ahmed went to BSMMU after hearing of his party chief’s visit in the hospital.
“We do not know why she has been brought here. We were not informed of it before,” said Moudud.
“The medical board formed by the government has clarified that Begum Zia is sick, something we had said for a long time.”
He described the medical board as a ruse of the government, adding that the BNP has no confidence in medical treatment provided by the ruling party.
“She has been kept in an abandoned and secluded jail where she is bound to fall ill. We want her to be freed so she can receive treatment by her personal doctors,” said Moudud.
The former law minister also complained of a government ‘conspiracy’ behind the issue of Khaleda Zia’s bail. The ruling party has denied any role in Khaleda’s legal circumstances.
