The BNP chief appealed in High Court against a verdict when her lawyers get a certified copy of the judgment by the Fifth Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka 10 days after it sentenced her to five years in jail on Feb 8.

The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sahidul Karim agreed to hear the appeal on Feb 22, ordering a stay on the fines slapped on Khaleda by the special court.

The High Court also said it would make its decision on Khaleda’s bail petition after it received the case documents from the judge’s court.

As the BNP alleges the government is dilly-dallying in sending the documents to the High Court like it did in releasing the copy of the verdict, the court’s clerk Mokarram Hossain on Wednesday revealed the date for sending the documents.

Mokarram said it took time to check the documents and arrange those in order.

“In-sha-Allah, we will send the documents to the High Court on Sunday,” he said.

Earlier in the day, senior BNP leaders met Khaleda in jail. They said the party chief asked them to continue peaceful protests demanding her release.
