In Dhaka, the leaders started the protest outside the National Press Club at 11am. They continued their demonstration with banners and placards until 12pm amid slogans.

Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Vice-Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Khaleda’s Advisory Council member Zainul Abedin Faruq, Abdus Salam and other leaders of the 20-party alliance took part in the protests.

The BNP demonstrated on the same venue on Feb 12 after Khaleda was jailed for five years in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on Mar 8.

The party has since been active with demonstrations, sit-ins, hunger strikes, black-flag show, mass signature collection campaign and other protests.

A large number of police personnel remained alert around the National Press Club since Tuesday morning.

The BNP has reiterated that they want to hold the protests peacefully.

The party is due to go for another sit-in programme outside its headquarters at Naya Paltan in the capital on Thursday morning.
