They also demanded to send an expert doctors’ team to evaluate her health conditions so that proper treatment can be ensured.

They hold a press briefing on Monday at Dhaka Reporters Unity under the banner ‘Shocheton Chikitshok Somaj (the society of conscious doctors).

Leaders of the pro-BNP Doctors Association of Bangladesh or DAB, including Prof Dr AKM Azizul Haque, Prof Dr Rafiqul Kabir Labu, Prof Farhad Halim Doner, Prof Md Mostaq Ahmed and Dr Mohiuddin Bhuiyan Masum, were present among others at the press briefing.

In a written statement, they said Khaleda was suffering from diabetes, blood pressure and heart problems for a long time and “if the conditions deteriorate, the government will have to take responsibility for that.”

They also pointed at her eye as well as knee 'problems' as she underwent knee replacement surgery before.

On Feb 8, a Dhaka court sentenced her to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The BNP is protesting the verdict by organising rallies, human-chains, hunger strike, petition campaign, submission of memoranda and black flag march.

It also plans to hold a public rally on Mar 12 at Dhaka's Suhrawardy Udyan.
