“We announced yesterday that the rally was for Mar 11. It has been now rescheduled to Mar 12” BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday.
He told a media briefing at the BNP headquarters that they have sought the clearance from authorities, including the police. “ We hope that we will be allowed to hold the rally this time,” Rizvi said at a press conference.
The party was denied permission to hold rally for the same cause on Feb 22.
It wanted Suhrawardy Udyan or the street in front of the BNP offices in Naya Paltan.
Police turned the BNP down citing the Amar Ekushey Book Fair that continued throughout February at Bangla Academy and Suhrawardy Udyan, according to Rizvi.
Dhaka’s fifth special judge’s court ordered a five-year jail term for BNP chief Khaleda Zia in a graft case involving the Zia Orphanage Trust on Feb 8.
Since then, the BNP has been active with demonstrations, sit-ins, hunger strike, leaflet distribution and other protest programmes.
