“We want multi-party democracy in the country. We want a free, fair and inclusive election. But that election must be held under a non-partisan government; otherwise it won’t be neutral,” she said adding "elections in Bangladesh will never be impartial without a non-partisan government in power."

The BNP chief was speaking at a meeting with representatives of the Christians at her Gulshan offices in Dhaka on Saturday night ahead of Christmas.

Referring to the 10th parliamentary election, she asked, “How many people went to cast their votes in that election? If it was an election, how did 154 candidates win uncontested?”

Addressing the leaders of the Christian community, she said, “We think Bangladesh is passing a dark time and people from all religion will have to get united to come out of this situation.”

She later cut a cake with them and wished them happy and prosperous life.

Top BNP leaders were also present at the function chaired by Bangladesh Christian Association President Albert P Costa.
