Shahadat Hossain Shaka, Chairman of Sharshadi union council, also denied the allegation that he had ordered the attack.

Speaking to bdnews24.com on Monday, he blamed former Noaklhali MP and BNP leader Zainul Abedin Farroque's supporters for the attack.

He also defended Osman Gani Real, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League's Sharhshadi Union Parishad unit, whose photos have been published by several media as one of the attackers of the BNP motorcade.

Explaining Real's presence in the area during the attack, Awami League leader Shaka told bdnews24.com: "Real and other members of Chhatra League went to the area to ease traffic congestion."

Real's phone was found switched off.

Chittagong City BNP President Shahadat Hossain earlier at a news conference claimed the voice heard in a leaked phone conversation, where the attack on BNP chief Khaleda Zia's motorcade, was ordered, is of Shaka, not his as claimed by an online media outlet.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub-Ul Alam Hanif alleged BNP loyalists were involved in the attack.

He played an audio tape of the leaked phone conversation at a programme in Dhaka to back his claim that BNP leader Shahadat ordered the attack.
