Khaleda visits MK Anwar's family, mourns BNP leader

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has visited the grieving family members of party leader MK Anwar who died early on Tuesday.

She consoled his ailing wife Mahmuda Anwar at their home in Dhaka's Elephant Road around 10pm.

The former prime minister spoke to Anwar's elder son Mahmud Anwar.

She was joined during the visit by several BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Mirza Abbas.

MK Anwar, the 84-year-old standing committee member of the BNP, passed away in his house.

Special prayer gatherings for his Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Katabon mosque in the morning, then outside BNP offices at Naya Paltan at noon and after that, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Complex.

His body will be taken to Comilla's Homna for burial on Wednesday following the return of his son Masud Anwar and daughter Khadija Anwar who are travelling home from the US.
