Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to meet Khaleda on Sunday

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will meet BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Sunday night after her meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

According to several senior BNP leaders, the two will meet at 8pm at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. Swaraj is to stay at the same hotel during her two-day trip to Bangladesh.

The programme has been confirmed by the Bangladesh foreign ministry.

A seven-member BNP delegation led by Khaleda Zia will meet Swaraj, BNP leaders said.

The other members of the delegation will be BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Standing Committee members Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, and BNP Advisory Council members Riaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed.

Swaraj is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 2pm on Sunday. She will be welcomed by her Bangladeshi counterpart AH Mahmood Ali.

The planned visit is for the annual ‘India-Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission’ meeting of the two foreign ministers. She will inaugurate 15 projects funded by the Indian government during her stay.

The Indian external affairs minister will pay a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban on Sunday evening. She is also scheduled to meet with Leader of the Opposition Raushon Ershad.

She is also scheduled to meet with leaders of Bangladesh’s civil society, business and culture on Monday before she leaves Dhaka.

Swaraj made her first trip as external affairs minister to Bangladesh in May, 2014. This will be her second visit.
