The expelled assistant secretary of BCL, Mohiuddin Rana, is a student of physics department of the university.

The proctorial team of the university arrested Rana, a resident of Shahidullah Hall, and one of his accomplices on Thursday night, hours before the 'Gha' unit admission test on Friday morning.

Electronic devices they used to help admission seekers cheat in the tests were also seized.

The devices include a plastic card, which looks like a credit card but can be used as a mobile phone, and a tiny earphone for the candidate to communicate with people outside the exam centres to hear the answers.

The other person arrested on Friday night is Abdullah Al Mamun, an applied chemistry student living in the Amar Ekushey Hall.

Acting Proctor Amzad Ali said Rana and Mamun are 'masterminds' behind the admission test cheating.

Based on the information given by the duo, a candidate, Ishrak Hossain Rafi, was detained at University Laboratory School centre during the test on Friday.

Rafi said he struck a Tk 200,000 deal with Rana for helping him cheat to pass the admission test.

The university authorities handed the three to the Criminal Investigation Department of police.

The authorities also detained 12 other test takers from various exam venues on Friday after interrogating Rana and Mamun. The 12 were sentenced to one month in jail.

CID Additional Superintendent of Police Md Minhazul Islam told bdnews24.com that Rana, Mamun and Rafi would be charged under the cyber crimes act.

After announcing Rana's expulsion in a notice on Friday evening, BCL General Secretary Jakir Hossain told bdnews24.com: "No one involved in any misdeed can remain a member of Chhatra League. We've expelled Rana immediately after hearing the allegation."

Rana is from Sherpur and known to be a supporter of Jakir.
