The 95-year-old is in 'critical' condition at the ICU of the Health and Hope Hospital in the capital's Panthapath, Communist Party of Bangladesh or CPB Presidium Member Abdullah Al Kafi Ratan told bdnews24.com on Sunday night.

"Comrade Jasim Uddin Mondal's health is deteriorating fast," Ratan said.

Jasim Uddin has been suffering from old-age complications for a long time. He was taken to Dhaka when he fell ill at his home in Pabna on Sept 28.

CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim and other central leaders of the party are with Jasim Uddin now.

Jasim Uddin, born at Nadia in West Bengal in 1922, took part in the anti-British movement.

He joined the Communist Party in 1940. He moved to Pabna's Ishwardi with his family after the Partition and helped railway workers build a movement.

He also played a role in organising the Liberation War in 1971.
