Play no political game on Rohingya issue, please: Quader to BNP

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has asked the BNP to not play any political trickery with Rohingya refugees.

"Everyone, irrespective of parties or political ideologies, should stand by the Rohingyas at this time of sufferings. No one should play politics with the issue," the road transport and bridges minister told reporters at a meeting in Munshiganj on Friday. 

"Don't play mean politics with the issue. You are trying to gain political mileage by exploiting the human catastrophe of the Rohingyas," he said alluding to the BNP.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir on Friday accused the government of failing to deal with the issue diplomatically or humanely.

"When their aircraft violate our airspace, the government remains mum. This is nothing but a subservient foreign policy," Fakhrul alleged.

In response, Quader said, "Making accusations against the government will not solve the problem. We sought cooperation from everyone. It's a human disaster that will affect our life and society."

He spoke to journalists after a visit to oversee the progress of the construction of a bridge at Malibagan road at Satiantali in Sirajdikhan Upazila.
