"Bangladesh will celebrate the golden jubilee of independence in 2021. Of course, the Awami League's aim is to be in power, to work for the country's development and progress when we celebrate the golden jubilee," she said on Saturday.

She was addressing a meeting of the ruling party's Working Committee at the Ganabhaban, her residence.

She said she also wants the Awami League in power when the nation will celebrate Bangabandhu Sheikh  Mujibur Rahman's 100th birth anniversary in 2020.

"Bangladesh will be free from hunger and poverty as dreamed by the Father of the Nation by that time," she said.

The Awami League announced 'Vision 2021' which stipulates to make Bangladesh a middle-income country prioritising information and communication technology by 2021- before coming to power with an absolute majority in 2008.

It was re-elected in the 2014 election marred by violent protests and boycott by the largest opposition, BNP.

Sheikh Hasina said her party is working in line with specific declarations and financial policy for the country's development.

The implementation of the five-year plan and 10-year perspective plan is under way, which has already earned the status of high growth rate and lower middle-income country, she said.

She also said the Awami League government already achieved some of the targets set in the 'Vision 2021'.

"But we need another term to implement the big projects through which Bangladesh will start the journey on the highway of development," she said.

"Development will continue if Awami League remains in power. The continuity of development could be maintained because we could continue in 2014 what we started in 2008."

"...Inshallah, we'll become a developed country by 2041," she added.

The current government's tenure will end by early 2019.
