The BNP secretary general was speaking as the chief guest at the party's member registration programme at the Raipur Union on Saturday.

With tears dripping down from his eyes, he said, "I came here and spoke to you after the Jan 5, 2014, election. I learnt how you spent your days in agony."

"You couldn't even stay at home. You had to spend nights in rice fields during winter. The sufferings continue...Please forgive me for becoming emotional sometimes," a visibly upset Fakrul added.

In August last year, the BNP secretary general broke into tears while speaking about the status of party activists at a programme in Dhaka.

"I travel by car every day. When my car gets stuck in traffic jam, our young activists rush to me. One of them from Lakshmipur said he was selling goods on streets in Dhaka. He fled to avoid arrest in a number of cases.

"Our boys pull rickshaws now!" he said while sobbing at the programme in Dhaka.
