BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s convoy came under attack allegedly by the followers of the local ruling party leader Hasan Mahmud earlier on Sunday.

The BNP secretary general was on his way to Rangamati to visit the areas devastated by landslides when his motorcade came under attack at Ichhakhali in Rangunia, which Hasan represents in parliament.

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury was also in the convoy.

Mahmud, on Sunday night, sent photographs to bdnews24.com where he is seen clad like a day-labourer and carrying a basketful of soil as part of the inauguration of the development work on a road in Chittagong’s Rangunia in the afternoon.

“The Awami League leaders and activists are repairing the roads damaged in natural calamity in Rangunia municipality,” he told bdnews24.com.

“As many as 27 people have died in landslides in my area, and 49 roads in eight unions have been damaged.

“Awami League leaders and activists will be engaged in repairing the roads because it’s not possible for the government alone to repair those immediately,” he added.

Earlier, in response to the BNP’s allegation that his followers attacked Mirza Fakhrul’s motorcade, he said, “Locals carried out the attack when two people were injured after being hit by BNP leaders’ vehicles”.
