The leader exudes confidence that people will soon come out on the street to protest and stop what she called “torture unleashed by the government.”

Khaleda’s remarks came at an Iftar party hosted by the National Peoples’ Party on Saturday.

“We believe people will unite after Eid-ul-Fitr and then we will take to the streets. People will join us to stop exploitation,” she said.

She urged BNP allies to prepare for waging a movement in demand of an 'election facilitating government.'

“We demand a fair election under a supporting government.”

Citing soaring prices of essentials and rising utility bills, the BNP chief said: “Prices of rice, pulse, oil, salt, and vegetables are now out of the reach of poor people.”

“All we see is one party getting bigger. They are basking in conceited glory,” Khaleda said referring to the ruling Awami League.

She lambasted the budget FY2018 which has raised excise duties on bank accounts.

“Now they will charge tax on the paltry savings of Tk 100,000 of the people,” said the former prime minister.

National People's Party Chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad, Secretary General Mustafizur Rahman Mostafa, former Dhaka University vice-chancellor Emajuddin Ahamed, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan attended the Iftar ceremony among others.
