Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah on Tuesday also issued a rule asking why the acceptance of the charges in these cases should not be declared illegal.

‪“Khaleda Zia was confined to her office from Jan 5 of 2015. The cases that accuse her of ordering violence are politically motivated,” her lawyer Mahbub Uddin Khokon told bdnews24.com.

The state will appeal against the High Court order, said Deputy Attorney General Maniruzzaman Kabir.

The cases were filed over violence in Jatrabari and Darussalam during an anti-government movement launched by the BNP for the first three months of 2015, to mark the boycott of a general election a year ago.

The charges in the cases were taken into cognisance at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in August.

‪The BNP chief has been challenging the decision and secured stay orders from the High Court on at least six similar cases.
