A senior Awami League leader has dismissed an outline set by the BNP, saying its chief Khaleda Zia is merely trying to 'imitate' Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

There was nothing new in Khaleda's Vision 2030 unveiled on Wednesday, claimed Awami League’s Tofail Ahmed.

"Khaleda Zia is following and copying Sheikh Hasina," he told bdnews24.com.

The BNP as a party is free to announce its work plans, he said. “But we see nothing new in it.”

Khaleda spoke of reforming the judiciary, the police force and strategic steps against militancy in her outline.

She reiterated a necessity for balancing the sole executive powers granted to Bangladesh's
prime ministers and presidents.

Khaleda last year proposed an outline for a more inclusive Election Commission for overseeing the 2019 election.

The Awami League came to power in 2008 with a 23-point manifesto, Vision-2021.

Tofail in his reaction to the BNP's Vision 2030 brought up media reports about divides
among its leaders over the outline.

"I've not seen it, and I don’t feel the need to," said Rashed Khan Menon, President of the Workers Party, an Awami League ally.

Mujahidul Islam Selim, chief of the Communist Party of Bangladesh, also said,
"I haven’t seen it."
