“The list of counsellors sent to us from Rangpur includes the name of Sajeeb Wazed Joy. He will represent Rangpur at the council,” AL Senior Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif told the media on Thursday.

The ruling Awami League is set to hold its 10th National Council on Oct 22 and 23.

An IT professional and son of AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Joy lives in the US.

He joined the party of his grandfather Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his mother a few years ago.

Last year, the party unit at Rangpur's Pirganj Upazila enlisted him as a member in its committee.

Joy's father, the late eminent nuclear scientist Wazed Miah, hailed from the northern district.

In 2013, Joy took part in several rallies in Pirganj, campaigning on behalf of his mother ahead of the national elections held in January 2014.

Joy also serves as IT Affairs Adviser to the Prime Minister.
