At an Iftar gathering on Thursday she said, “This government has killed so many people and has done so much wrong that we will appeal to Allah to listen to the wailing of the people and remove this government from power.”

“Punish the oppressors and show that Allah’s justice runs in this world.”

The former prime minister has even accused the government of treason.

“This government charges others with treason. But it is secretly doing a lot of things that are against the state. The people are not aware of everything.”

BNP Joint General Secretary Aslam Chowdhury is currently under arrest on charges of plotting to overthrow the Hasina government with the help of the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

About the government crackdown on militants, Khaleda said their “real intention was not to catch terrorists but to arrest BNP workers and leaders”.

She claimed over 2,500 BNP activists had been detained since the anti-terrorist drive began last Friday.
