He made the call while speaking at a seminar shortly after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia inaugurated the party’s Sixth National Council at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh on Saturday morning.

Imam said the BNP had been allowed to organise the council ‘nicely’ to help it correct its past ‘wrong politics.’

“They (BNP) will be dealt with firmly if they misuse this opportunity. If anyone wants to do politics on the soil of Bangladesh, one has to believe in Bangabandhu, Liberation War and non-communal spirit,” he added.

The BNP was given permission to hold its council at the Institution of Engineers and a part of the Suhrawardy Udyan.

Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam said at the seminar at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre that those who believed in communalism wanted to inflict division and conflicts among sects and religions.

He urged all to unite against terrorism and militancy in the interest of the country.

Awami League Presidium member Matia Chowdhury called Khaleda and her son BNP Senior Vice-chairman Tarique Rahman ‘failed politicians’.

“Politics is for the people. What the BNP will gain by killing people and destroying civilisation?” she said.

The Awami League organised the seminar titled ‘Sheikh Hasina-led Bangladesh Awami League to Face Communalism, Militancy and Terrorism’.
