Huda, a founder member of the BNP, said only a change in the leadership could help the party turn around.

Huda made the announcement at a media call in Dhaka on Friday.

“I hold the top brass responsible for the Khaleda Zia-led BNP’s failure,” he said.

Earlier, the maverick politician had floated the Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) and later the Bangladesh Manabadhikar Party (BMP) after he was expelled from the BNP.

He had also announced the constitution of an alliance, ‘Bangladesh Jatiya Jote’, with 30 parties about 10 months ago.
“We cannot let the BNP, loved by millions, to be obliterated only because of its leaders. The BNP must start afresh with a new name,” he reasoned. “With this in mind, we’re starting the journey of Trinamool BNP.”
About 40 activists of the new party were present but their previous political affiliations were not disclosed.
M Najimuddin Al Azad, a former minister under military dictator HM Ershad who now heads a faction of Liberal Democratic Party, was with Huda.
Labour Party faction chief Sekandar Ali Moni, Ganatantrik Andolan chief ARM Zafrullah Chowdhury, and Bangladesh People’s Democratic Party Chairman Md Jamal Uddin, too, were on stage.
The Russian embassy’s Second Secretary Khristina Boyko was also seen at the press briefing.
