Hearing a police petition on Friday, metropolitan magistrate Emdadul Haque issued the order, court police’s additional deputy commissioner Anisur Rahman said.

Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector AKM Saiful Haque Bhuyian wanted to grill the BNP vice chairman to police custody for 10 days.

He was arrested at his house at Banani on Thursday night and taken to Detective Branch headquarters at Minto Road.

The former foreign secretary was also BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s foreign affairs advisor.

Awami League MP Chhabi Biswas was assaulted and injured at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital during a clash between the supporters of the ruling party and BNP in Dhaka's Bakshibazar on Dec 24.

The clash had erupted outside a special court in Bakhsibazar where Khaleda had appeared for the hearing in a corruption case.
