The party's spokesperson said that Sheikh Hasina's comment when trials are on is tantamount to contempt of court.

On Thursday, Hasina told a discussion that Khaleda and her son were involved with the attack on her the same way Ziaur Rahman was with the 1975 assassination of her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

"The prime minister's recent comments blaming Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman and BNP over the Aug 21 attack are untrue, bogus and politically motivated. We believe she not only tried to influence the court but also confused it. Such comments by a Prime Minister are undoubtedly tantamount to contempt of court," BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told a media briefing on Sunday.

The BNP acting Secretary General said that they want the perpetrators brought to justice and the then BNP-led government acted accordingly.

"But Awami League President Sheikh Hasian did not cooperate with the FBI and the judicial inquiry commission at that time," he claimed.

Fakhrul said that the Prime Minister's such statements were 'sad'.
