She had waited for nearly an hour in her car on the compound of her residence to go to the BNP's Naya Paltan rally but the police barred her way.

"The programme to restore democracy will go on…either today or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, the programme will continue," she told waiting media persons.

The BNP chief branded the present government “illegal and undemocratic”. “They should step down immediately if they have any grace left," she said.

She boarded a white SUV at her Gulshan residence compound at around 1:50pm to go to her party headquarters to attend the proposed rally.

However, she failed to leave the house as one platoon of police and RAB personnel took up position in front of the main gate, bdnews24.com photojournalist Tanvir Ahammad reported from the scene.

He said a large contingent of RAB and police personnel cordoned off the house, although the main gate was kept open.

Khaleda came out of the vehicle, holding the national flag, after a long wait.

She started addressing the policemen, blocking her way.

"Why have you blocked me off? I dare you let me go," is what Khaleda told the police officials.

"You [the police] will wait in front of the gate every day. I will come as well [to leave].This will go on for days," she said after waiving to the members of the press.

Members of RAB including the commander of RAB-1 Kismat Hayat were at the main gate then.
