The policeman died in Dhaka on Tuesday when a vehicle caught fire after being bombed by Opposition activists.

The case, filed with the Ramna Police, named 18 Opposition leaders and mentioned the involvement of another 18 to 20 unnamed persons.

Other senior BNP leaders such as the party's Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Joint Secretary General Aman Ullah Aman, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Salahuddin Ahmed and Dhaka metropolitan member secretary Abdus Salam have been named as instigators along with Jamaat-e-Islami acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman and leader Shafiqul Islam Masud, Ramna Police Station OC Moshiur Rahman said.

Police constable Md Ferdous was burned to death and two others sustained burn injuries when miscreants torched a bus on police duty, parked in front of the Bangla Motor police box, around 11:30pm on Tuesday, soon after the Opposition’s latest spell of countrywide blockade had ended.

Injured Constable Faijul Islam, 41, and bus driver Md Biazid, 25, were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Salauddin Sohagh, a witness to the incident, said he had seen two persons on a motorbike fleeing immediately after the attack.

It has been alleged in the complaint filed with the police that two men had carried out the attack at the instigation of Fakhrul and the other accused.

Fakhrul, along with senior leaders of the 18-Party alliance, had earlier been implicated in two cases of arson attacks on buses at Shahbagh and Malibagh towards the end of November.
