The move comes shortly after an all-party polls-time cabinet headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to supervise the national election, is sworn in.

BNP's Vice Chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told bdnews24.com Khaleda Zia was yet to hear back from the President.

If the President grants the appointment, it will be Khaleda's first meeting with President Hamid since he took over earlier this year.

Earlier in the day, the President swore in eight new members in the all-party cabinet headed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Five of the eight new ministers are from the Jatiya Party, two from the Awami League and one from the Workers Party.

The BNP had rejected the Hasina's call to join the interim cabinet and had dubbed it a 'farce'.

Headed by the BNP, the 18-Party alliance has been intensifying the agitation demanding a non-party government's supervision of the national polls.

The 10th national election will have to be held by Jan 24 next year in keeping with the Constitutional requirements.
