Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman informed bdnews24.com of the detention.
He said the Shibir President has been taken to Detective Branch’s Minto Road office.
When asked about the reason of the detention, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Nasima Akter told bdnews24.com a case was filed over the Mar 6 violence in the capital during a BNP rally.
She said the case, filed over blasts and clashes, named 26 people including Shibir President Hussen, Secretary General Md Abdul Zabbar, BNP’s youth front Juba Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal, General Secretary Saiful Islam Nirob, Swechchasebak Dal President Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel and General Secretary Sarafat Ali Sapu.
The ADC said the Shibir chief had been charged with explosions, assaulting police officials, vandalism and obstructing officials on duty.
Shibir is the student front of Jamaat-e-Islami, many of whose top leaders are standing trials on a raft of war crimes charges at the two international crimes tribunals.
The Shibir has led the Jamaat’s violent campaign since last November demanding dissolution of the tribunals.
They have been blamed for nationwide attacks on the police and for large scale disruption of road and rail networks as well as violence against Hindus.
