Ershad files in Rangpur, Kurigram

Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Mohammed Ershad submitted nomination papers Sunday for Rangpur-3 and Kurigram-2 seats, and is also expected to compete from Dhaka and Habiganj, said party officials.

Dhaka, Nov 23 (bdnews24.com) – Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Mohammed Ershad submitted nomination papers Sunday for Rangpur-3 and Kurigram-2 seats, and is also expected to compete from Dhaka and Habiganj, said party officials.
"I want to become president to serve the people," the JP chief reiterated as he filed his papers with Rangpur deputy commissioner and returning officer Abdul Ahad on Sunday morning.
"Unless one is in government it's impossible to carry on development work. The people of Rangpur have done a lot for me and I want to repay their love and devotion," Ershad told local newsmen.
The former president was accompanied by his two brothers, GM Quader and Mozammel Huq Lalu.
After filing, Ershad went to Gangachara upazila with nephew Asif Shahriar, to address local leaders and workers. At the time, a number of those gathered chanted: "We want candidates from local party leaders, not from family members."
Later in the afternoon, he submitted his papers for Kurigram-2to Kurigram DC and returning officer Md Asaduzzaman.
Ershad said he was happy to have submitted his nomination papers himself. In the past, the former president had run for polls from prison.
The JP chief inaugurated a new patrty office in the Old Post Office area of Kurigram town.
