Dhaka, Dec 22 (bdnews24.com) - Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bhasani) Friday said President Iajuddin Ahmed failed to prove his impartiality as caretaker chief.
"Iajuddin Ahmed must step down. He is yet to prove his neutrality as head of the caretaker government," Shafiqul Ghani Swapan, chairman of the restructured party, told reporters at a press conference in Purbani Hotel.
He demanded the Election Commission should be made neutral and transparent ballot boxes be used for the upcoming polls.
"There is no favourable climate to hold a free and fair election," he said.
Swapan did not make it clear whether his party would form an alliance with the Awami League or the BNP to contest the election.
Swapan was elected chairman to the party and Iqbal Hossain Forkan as secretary-general as part of the overhaul.
Swapan said the rest of the committee members would be announced later.
