PM urged Ansar-VDP members to help resist militants

Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia Tuesday called upon the members of the auxiliary Ansar-VDP forces to help resist the militants, who are killing innocent people in the name of Islam.

Gazipur, Jan 24 (BDNEWS) - Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia Tuesday called upon the members of the auxiliary Ansar-VDP forces to help resist the militants, who are killing innocent people in the name of Islam.
"Remain watchful about the movements of these evil forces in the remote areas and inform the law enforcers so that the mis-interpreters of Islam can be eradicated from the society," she said while addressing the 27th national rally of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP at Safipur in Gazipur.
She said those who, in the name of Islam, a religion of peace, are carrying out bomb blasts and creating anarchy in the country must be wiped out.
The Prime Minister said all of us have to work hard for ensuring social peace and political stability, and continuing the present pace of development.
Referring to great contributions of Ansar-VDP in the development process of the country, she said the members of the force are contributing a lot in the expansion of education, tree plantation, population control, women empowerment and sanitation programmes.
"The government has taken all necessary arrangements to make the Ansar-VDP Academy into a full-fledged one," Khaleda Zia said adding that the construction work of a training building with all modern facilities has already been completed.
She said necessary arrangements of providing village-based training to the all members of the VDP within shortest possible time will be undertaken.
"We have strengthened training activities of the Ansar force at home and abroad" the Prime Minister said adding that a 20-member Ansar team has been sent to Ivory Coast for the first time in the UN peace keeping mission.
Referring to various demands of the Ansar members, she said formation of two more battalions for male and female Ansars is under implementation.
Khaleda Zia said the members of Ansar are discharging their due role with the Army in the hill tracts and with police and RAB in plain areas.
State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar, Home Secretary Safar Raj Hossain, PM's political secretary Haris Chowdhury, DG of Ansar-VDP Major General M Akbar Hossain were also present on the occasion.
Later, the Prime Minister took salute at the smartly turned-out parade. She also distributed president award to Abul Khair for his courageous role in discharging duties in Feni.
A colourful cultural function with participation of Ansar members was also organised on the occasion.
