Padma Bridge to be constructed soon: PM

Madaripur, May 15 (BDNEWS) - Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has said construction of Padma bridge at Jazira-Mawa point, a longtime demand of the people of southwestern part of the country, will be implemented soon.
She made the announcement amidst repeated claps and cheers at a public meeting after inaugurating the Hazi Shariatullah bridge on the river Arial Kha at Shibchar upazila of the district Sunday.
The bridge, connecting Kaorakandi and Bhanga, was constructed costing Tk 74 crore.
Addressing the meeting on the western side of the bridge, the Prime Minister assured the local people of initiating different development activities.
Her assurance included expansion of the existing 32-bed hospital to a 50-bed hospital at Shibchar and turning the Madaripur-Shibchar road into a highway.
Presided over by Rashid Mollick, convenor of the Shibchar upazila BNP, the meeting was also addressed by Social Welfare Minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Muzahid.
