The writer was born on Nov 13, 1948.

The Doodle shows Ahmed sitting with a pot of tea and a book at his estate in Nuhash Polli and meeting with Himu, a popular character from his novels.

“Although formally trained as a chemist, Ahmed found his true calling as a writer. He authored over 200 books, many of which were best sellers and eight of which were made into films,” Google said regarding the Doodle.

“Ahmed is often credited with revitalising Bengali literature. His unique storytelling style captures the oral tradition and rhythm at the root of Bangla, bringing to life the stories and aspirations of traditional middle class and rural families.”

Ahmed passed away on Jul 19, 2012 at the age of 63.

The Google search engine site often commemorates notable events and individuals through its Doodle header image, often tailoring them to specific regions. Another regional Google Doodle on Monday commemorated the 148th birthday of German feminist writer Helene Stöcker.
