His daughter Mum Minti told bdnews24.com on Saturday that the artist was shifted to United Hospital from BIRDEM General Hospital on Friday.

“My father’s condition is not so good,” she said.

Minti said Akhand had been at BIRDEM for a long time after cancer was detected in his lung.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave the family Tk 500,000, with which Akhand was treated in Thailand.

Akhand was a rage in the 1980s , when he doubled up as a singer, lyricist, composer and music director.

His first album 'Lucky Akhand' was released by record label Sargam in 1984.

"Eiye Neel Monihar", "Amay Deko Na" "Ritiniti Jani Na", "Age Jodi Jantam" and "Sumona" are some songs of this album that made him famous.

After his brother Happy Akhand's death in 1987, Lucky withdrew from the music world.

Then, after a decade, he hit the stage again in 1998 with two albums "Porichoy Kobe Hobe" and "Britrishna Jibone Amar".

He has been a regular in many live music sessions on television ever since.
